Auckland Schools Debating is proud to announce an exciting opportunity for all ASD coaches and teachers!
On Saturday 2nd May, in partnership with the New Zealand Schools Debating Council and NSSD, ASD will be holding a coaching seminar given by Julia Fetherston.
Julia has a debating CV unparalleled by anyone in New Zealand. She was a member of the Australian Secondary Schools Team for three years, leading them to three World Schools Debating Championship titles being named Best Speaker at two of them. She has since gone on to have an illustrious university debating career winning multiple Australian and Australasian university debating competitions. Her adjudication and coaching experience rival her own debating prowess. She has not only coached local university and secondary school teams in Australia but most recently has been the coach of the New Zealand Schools Debating Team. This team was runner up at the 2008 World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) in Washington DC and in February of this year, was the Winner of the WSDC in Athens.
Julia will be in Auckland as part of the Russell McVeagh Regional Championships acting as a selector and adjudicator and has kindly offered to give a seminar on her coaching secrets to all coaches and teachers in the region. The session will last for an hour and include a question and answer session at the end. The seminar is being held in the Elliot Hall at St Kentigern’s College (the venue for the Regionals) and will begin promptly at 2.15pm.
ASD would like to stress that it is unlikely that coaches will have this opportunity again as Julia is only in New Zealand for a short while and we’re particularly lucky to have her paying a visit to Auckland. We’d encourage all teachers – no matter what grade they’re coaching to come along to the event.
